In this article,Dr Joyo Sanyal from the Australian Army Research Centre argues that the Australian Army must transform in order to be an effective instrument of land power in the 21st Century. While the fundamental nature of war is timeless, the nature of conflict is constantly evolving, driven by factors such as the rise of economic globalisation and trans-national mobility.
Dr Sanyal contends that the Army’s mastery and command of land power makes it a valuable instrument to protect national sovereignty. As the security environment becomes more complex, the Australian Army must adapt to both current and emerging threats. This will require a transformation from within that can only be achieved through sustained efforts to modernise business practices.
This article is a great reflection of where Army is now and where it needs to be if it is to remain an effective instrument of national power.
